hi,

again a stereo newbie question,

i am converting a 2d sequence to stereo3d. it is an static sequence with some mountains + a few clouds moving across the sky.
I would like to add a 3d object, in this case a helicopter, coming from behind the mountains and flying towards the camera.
i have done everything, but when the helicopter comes closer to the camera i have to change the eye separation of my stereo camera, to fit the helicopter for both eyes. But than the rest of my scene doesn't work anymore in stereo.

My question is, how can i change the eye separation for each object or how can i change the depth of only one object?

Thank you guys for annoying you with my stereo topics.....

that´s not the way to go, because u as a human cant change your eye seperation, and if u do so in your comp, people get crazy if they look your comp ;)

u need to change the "convergence distance" , and match the point where the 2 cameras intersect, with your heli. There is the "zero-plane" which has no 3d-related shift.
For scenes with a large depth (mountains->to->Camera´s eye) i prefer a small eyeseperation!

hope that helps.

thanks for your reply!
it seems it will work by fine tuning the eye separation and the convergence distance :)

i have got one general question at least, when you shoot with a stereo rig on set, you can choose between two general set ups: convergence camera and parallel camera setups.
which camera setup is in fusion the best to set up? and is a real parallel mounted camera rig possible, because you have to adjust things like shift sensor, etc..?

greetings

more and more the filmmaker are using parallel mode. But not for Beauty, only for easyniss ;)

If u shot in parallel mode, u can "easily" change the "feeling of 3d" in postproduction. There u shift your Pics and fake the change of "eye-seperation". So the photographer didnt need to be exact as if they shot in convergence mode. In this mode, u must often make changes on your Cam-Rig, must have a 3D-Stereo preview , the 3dStereo-ZeroPlane should match the DoF-Plane ..........

"real Parallel" ? hmm, not really, but there are f.e. "in iridias framecycler" some methods to repair and adjust "wrong" stereo-material.

But in my expirience, convergence mode , is the way u get the best feeling.....

my point is that convergence mode good for extreeme closeups shoots (when distance to the farthest object is commensurate to interaxial (camera separation) )

in other situation i prefer off-axis (i.e parallel). we work in full CG, not the real footages.

Guys, who did shoot real world - there is other reasons to choice. For example - Live events (like Sport or music show) - they have`t time to postProduction.. and they deal with "on set" toe-in (convergence) mode.
