Mocha Pro 3 Camera Solver

Hi,

I'm close to upgrading my Mocha license to v3 specifically use the camera solver. I'm very new to Fusion and I can't see how to load the .fbx output of the Mocha camera solver into Fusion's 3D camera. From what I can gather Fusion can import FBX mesh but not Mocha's FBX scene information.

Can anyone confirm either way whether the Mocha Pro camera solve data can be utilised in Fusion?

Many thanks,

Custom Lut Created Looks All Wrong

I made a custom lut using this process
http://www.pigsfly.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7159

What I was trying to do was have a LUT emulate the difference between a linear RED file and a REDGamma2 Red file. Quite often I have to work in Cineform and its conversion does not preserve the Red metadata values and my idea was work in a linear gamma space with a LUT applied on top

So i imported the same r3d file twice...set one to linear, the other to redGamma2....did a histogram match between the 2, then CC's the LUT Cubecreate tool with the instance of the CC, ran that through the analyzer and wrote out the LUT...

Now when that LUT is applied through the view LUT or the file LUT the image is way off....not even remotely close
any ideas why this would be?

3D Projection / Scene

Hi im trying to make a 3d scene

i have a the scene already displaced and i got my background projected onto it.

My question is how do i layer the image with multiple projections

my first image is of a room that im projecting into a 3d space

next i have to project a wood texture onto a desk

next i have an image of some paperwork which i have to project on top of the wood desktop

these all have to be separate projections because of the angles and the way the camera moves within the scene

The problem im having is that when i project my first image everything works fine

then when i plug another projector into the merge everything disappears

when i look through the render-er the 2nd image is all white and see through

i did a forum search and said i should use a catcher tool which i did

the problem with the catcher tool is that when im working in 3d space everything is still invisible when more than 1 projector is connected

also when you look though the render-er now the images are not see through but they are warping

any help would be great thanks

Color Correct Fusion Versus Nuke

Hi fellows!

I've been using Fusion for over 4 years now, and I have been asked to test Nuke to see how it works!
I have a question regarding color correcting:

I took a gradient (0-1) and have applied gain, gamma and brigntness changes. I used the same values in NUKE and the result is drastically different!

I redid the same cc in Fusion by using Gamma, Gain and Brightness (in that specific order) and puttting the same values.... now I get the same result as in NUKE (and Flame that I also tested).

Now if I do the same with individual nodes in that Order GAIN, GAMMA. BRIGHNTNESS ... I dont get the same result that in an cc node...

HOW DOES FUSION CC NODE CALCULATES IT'S INPUT???

Thanks for your help!

Macro: Copy Aux Light

I had a channel bool macro laying around for a while and now I decided to rename the inputs to match Dimension's awesome little CopyAux tool.

It is Light (could also call it Diet Copy Aux) because it is basically only a Channel Boolean. It does not change the Depth for you, fallback if channels don't exists, has no remapping etc.

But if you want to save you from some clicks try it out:
http://www.vfxpedia....x_Light.setting
Needs some testing. Pretty useful if you use the Fuse a lot. You can e.g. use it to convert WPP to CameraSpace or back. I mean this creates the connections to the camera.
Should work with almost(?) all 3D Transforms.

Luminance Key Help

Hey there--

I'm having a brain freeze about how to use (and what to use) to attempt a key on a sequence. I have a plan B if this won't work, but I wanted to see if it's even reasonable to try it.

I have to leave for a four-day shoot, but need to address this as soon as I get back on Thursday. I was wondering, if someone had a spare couple of minutes (HA!) if you could set up a "good start" on a flow for me and e-mail it to me or post it? I'm on Fusion6

I just need to fill the window frame (image attached-- it's part of a two-second sequence) with a different image, and I'm wondering if the luminance separation is good enough (or not) to do it. If someone could tell me I'm wasting my time, too, that would be helpful, because I'll just go to my Plan B.

THANK YOU!

Newbie Questions ... Be Gentle...

I'm an editor dipping my toes in the world of Fusion... attracted by the promise of being able to composite nodally within Avid Media Composer.

Basic questions will follow in my attempts to get a grip on what I want the software to do (which is not 3D match moving passes, yet):

Are there any alternatives to 3 button mice for panning / zooming in the viewers? - i'm on the learning edition via bootcamp on a MacBookPro and the trackpad doesn't seem to work too well for this.

Similarly I can't right click and drag to connect pipes with the pop-up prompts for destinations - although hover works well for figuring those out.

I thought I'd try creating a simple vignette mask. Add mask paint tool. Add Rectangle to make mask fully transparent. Add Circle to erase the bit of the mask I want to see through... Doesn't seem to be any way of modifying the aspect of that circle or feathering the edge? Try an alternative approach of drawing a filled polygon but only manage a polyline. Decide to appeal to kindness of strangers for some help...

Many thanks

I have one shot which was shot neutral, so I've been trying to match every other shot manually, but it's not the best solution.
All in all, every shot looks different and we have a huge consistency problem.

Question is...
Has anyone encountered this?
Is there a way to neutralize the color temp and ccShift so that all the shots look the same?

I couldn't find anything online or on the arri website.
Thanks in advance.

Fxguide = Thefoundry?

I'm a usual visitor of the FxGuide website and have always "felt" the obvious tendency they have to push TheFoundry products. Obviously, it has probably to do with the fact that TheFoundry is also a sponsor of FxGuide (?). Although I do love to see all the new tech about Nuke, Mari and co....... truthfully........ it almost sickens me to see how little is shown about Fusion (or none for that matter). For such a flexible and powerful compositor and for how long Fusion has been around.

I'm sure that Eyeon is prepping all the videos, news and such from NAB, but am curious as to how the information flow is to other journalist sources that, in turn, also post information for all us eager Fusonieers to read. Maybe Eyeon needs an FXguide-similar platform to get more information our there (news, training, etc). It seems at least that TheFoundry has found one.

Custom Boderwith Polyline

Hello there,
I'm wondering if there is any possibility to make a Polyline with a custom boder with for every Point. I want to do something like a "S-Shape" where the start and end points have for example borderwidth 0 and the point in the middle should have border width 0.1 .
I know I can simply make it a 4 point shape and give it thickness but if i want to animate it and let it twist or something it's really pain to do.
Another thing is that I want it to be animated like the stroke in the paint tool. With WriteOn-Start and WriteOn-End.
The second one is easy with the paint tool. But you can't give the stroke a custom size on each point.
Is there a way to achieve this without any Plugins?

Correct Method Of Mask Offset In Stereo Comp?

Hello,

Another question for you all. I'm working on a stereo project doing and running into a bit of a snag trying to offset my rotosplines. The technique I used is this. Get the masks working correctly in the left eye. Create instances of the masks which I apply to the right eye. Stick a transform operator between the masks and the merge operator on my right eye and adjust the offset globally for all the masks. This works really well until I save and close the comp. At which point when I reopen it the offset is all wonky and I'm back to square one.

The other method I have been working on but it's a bit less exact is to select all the control points for each roto spline and move the whole spline. I cannot use the xy selector for the splines because they are connected to a trackers.

Any ideas would really help. I'm under the gun and starting to pull my hair out. stereo is bad enough when your trying to get the paint and clean plates in the right z depth.

Hi there, can somebody explain here, how correct edges working ?

Here is info from help: http://eyeonmanual.c...4commoncontrols
Correct Edges
This checkbox only appears when the Use Object ID or Use Material checkboxes are selected. It toggles the method used to deal with overlapping edges of objects in a multi-object image. When this control is toggled on, the Coverage and Background Color channels are used to separate and improve the effect around the edge of the object. If this option is toggled off (or no Coverage or Background Color channels are available), aliasing may occur on the edge of the mask.
For more information on the Coverage and Background Color channels, consult the [[EyeonManual/Auxiliary_Channels|Auxiliary Channel] chapter.

When i use CC, edges of object are jaggy. Correct edges not working.

Dimension - Flowstretcher Tool

I have a question on the Flowstretcher tool in Dimension. I'm trying to figure out the scale parameters.

So, when the tool is added to the flow, and the spline is created at 0.0, is the scale on the left (going up from 0 to 100 and above), mean that at 0 there is no time stretch and increasing this value mean the playback will be faster? For example, if I increase the spline from 0 to 10, does that mean the frames play back 10% faster?

Or does 0 mean the time stretch is stopped and 100 would be normal playback and less than 0 will slow down the playback, a value above 100 will speed it up and values less than 0 will reverse the playback?

I'm having fun with Dimension. This weekend I plan to do a stereoscopic test shot. It will be my very first endeavour.

Rotoscope Question

Another neophite question about fusion here folks. So lets say I have a bspline mask and I want to set it up so the center of the mask is at the tip of a finger and base all my animation off of that. How would I do that? In combustion I would adjust the pivot point and then all my transforms would be based at that center point. I am failing to see how this is done in fusion.

Generally speaking what I tend to do in roto is make a basic mask either hand track or trackt he movement scale and rotation of the mask then make minor adjustment to the mask tangents as needed. I don't see an easy way for that to happen when my mask is way up on the left and the center of the frame is where all the transforms seem to come from. Hopefully I am making sense. I'm sure I am just overlooking something obvious to everyone else.

Disk Cache Question

Hey Guys,
Well I tried to see other questions, and most are about the cache itself and not the disk cache portion. I can see more or less how the cache and the disk cache interact and try to work together, but one thing that does not seem to make sense to me.
I have a composition and it has been cached to disk and I have locked it, so the concept is that anything prior to it should not be calculated. Well in most cases it seems to do that. However in my test I have the first part if my comp cached and locked and I then have two merges with paricle systems being merged.
Now.. I can drop in a CC tool and do some CC work, all be in not in realtime, but it does an ok job. Anyway, so I then take that out, because besides the non realtime portion because it invalidates the cache (ram cache), it seems to respect the fact that the tool prior to it, has been disk cached.
However, if I then turn on one of the merges with the particle system and the that part of the tree is not cached in any way, but does it's calculations and merges on top of the cached material, for some reason and only when I do this, it was to read the loaders also. So not only is it reading the RAW files of the cache it is also reading the loaders at the very beginning of the composition even though it is locked from the caching of the tool way down the line.

any thoughts on this, I mean it does not stop me from working, but it just seems backwards to what I am expecting. Coming from toxik, the cache would never work this way once cache is established.

Color Range Macro

This macro measures the minimum and maximum values of the Red, Green, Blue and Alpha channels in the image, or in a square area of the image.
It's useful when you want to get the idea of the color range of an image, quickly detect negative color values and the alpha values below 0 and above 1, which may cause some compositing errors downstream.
The measured values are displayed in the Control Panel of the macro.
The tool also renders additional information on top of the analyzed image:

Draggable and resizeable text output box with the miximum and maximum channel values

Areas with color values below the defined threshold are filled with magenta (by default, those are negative colors).

Areas with color values above the defined threshold are filled with green (by default, those are color values above 1).

The out-of-range areas are surrounded by white contour for easier visual detection in case the areas are too small.

To use the macro, feed your image to the Input, drag'n'drop the ColorRange node to a Display View

Tracking Question

I have pretty simple tracking issue. The camera is paning along a bulletin board where photos are pinned to the wall. I need to replace a photo. This photo starts out of frame and end the shot out of frame. Because of the way the camera moves there are very few frames with all four corners in view. In combustion I would simply move the tracker and it would calculate offset for me. Here I have been trying to use multiple trackers and then switch between them. Not sure how this is accomplished in fusion. Any pointers greatly appreciated.

In reality this is the sort of shot that begs for a planar tracker. But that's a different thread.

Hello

I would need to create a particular text animation : I would like to have a realistic text creation and when the lines is finished all the text has to go up. The last line must stay at the same place like on a writing machine. If I'm not clear, you can look at this website http://hackertyper.com/ (don't be afraid of the name, it fakes a hacker typing code). When you are at the bootom of the page it's all the page that goes up.

With text+, I use the write on for text creation but no way to keep the last lines at the same place, even playing with layout alignement. I would need fusion tyo reajust alignment depending on the write on. ANd as I have to make a very long sequence I do'nt want to animate this manually with a transform.

Thanks for help

Render Slaves

I've never used the render slaves and I don't see render slave pricing on eyeon's site any more, are they now free?
We're thinking on purchasing a few, but I have some questions. Hopefully some of you guys are using them and can help us with some pointers.

-How much is each slave license?
-Do I need a network license or do I install them locally?
-I guess the data needs to be in a shared location, is it ok to use network drives (sym-links) or comps need to have network locations?

Coming from RPS, I use tractor and all the data is intelligently handled through the network and sent back to my workstation real time, but Cinema4D for example makes you transfer all the data locally to a server, render and then manually copy all the frames back to your computer (pretty crappy).
Different render systems work differently, so it would be nice to know how eyeon goes about theirs.

Thanks in advance.

Keyframing Of Modifiers

Hi Forum!
I have a Q concerning modifiers - is there a way to have the keyframes of Modifiers visible in Timeline / Spline Editors?
or is there another way to change the time of the keyframes?

My case - i have a bunch of 3D geo, grouped. I created several User Controls and linked to them, via expression, appropriate Geo's opacities.
Now, i modified User Controls either with Perturb or Shake. i animated the shakes, and now i want to adjust the timing, but the keyframes are not displayed in either editor. They're showing only the expression, which is linking geo opacity with custom control. The Spline Editor shows the value curve of animated shakes, but not the keyframes?

How can i change the time of modifier's keyframes?

thanks in advance
cheers

Making Rain - Problems With Particles

Hello everybody,

I'm trying to make rain in Fusion and I'm facing several problems, maybe you could anwser my questions.
I imported my scene from maya, so I have all the simplified meshes for the collisions and matte.

I don't want to have just lines for the raindrops so I painted a texture and use a bitmap style. I would like to be able to change only the height of the sprites, to have some randomness in the length of the raindrops, but there is no attribute to do that, the size works only for width and height. How else could I do it? And is it possible to change the pivot point of the sprites?

I spawn bitmap particles again when the raindrop collide with the mesh. The problem is that those particles are not really spawned on the mesh... All of them are a little offset, without the same value, meaning my circles are actually spawning between 2 to 20 centimeters above the ground. What's wrong there?
My ground is obviously not completely flat (It would be too easy), and my circles are flat... so I would like to drive the particle rotation with the normal direction of the mesh where it's created, that sounds like something hard to do, maybe you guys have an idea on how to achieve that.

Also I would like to use 4 different textures for my circles. The only way I found right now was to have 4 pSpawns with different bitmaps and 0.25 probability each. Isn't there an easier way to do it?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Switch And Switchproxy

Just another Switch Macro but with DoD.
http://vfxpedia.com/...tch_Description

Eric found a good way to pass the DoD with a Dissolve.
Based on this I created two Macros:

Switch has an A and a B input. The Input-Control allows to switch between them. Other than the Dissolve-Tool this macro does preserve the Domain of Definition (DoD).

SwitchProxy is used to switch Full and Proxy resolution inputs based on the composition's Proxy-Setting. You can also force a manual output.

Pretty self-explanatory. Of course there is the excellent Switch Fuse by Tilt but for the simple Switch Macro you don't need anything to be installed first. If you want to Switch between more than two inputs the Fuse is for you.

Please Note:
If falls back to the available input if only one was supplied (Dissolve behavior). But the DoD will mismatch based on the setting. I might fix this in future versions.

Replace Material, Keep Alpha Error

Hi all,

Good to be back on a Fusion job again!
I ran into a weird problem and I was wondering if anybody has the same problem.
What I try to do is: I have some 3D geometry from a FBX loaded into fusion and after that I have a "replace material" node (with a 3bol connected to it to shuffle the wpp to the RGB) with the "keep alpha" option (this because some keyed footage on a image plane). When I render this with a 3Drender node, and put this node on software it works (but slow, and no DOF). When I put it on OGL it gives me an error (some wglmake something error, can't rememer exactly and I'm not behind a Fusion machine right now). It doesn't matter on which transparancy mode I put the 3Drender node, it keeps on giving me the same error.
It's system with a quadro 4000 card in it. Can anybody recreate this error?

Thanks a lot!

cheers,

R3D Convertion In Loader Question.

Hey Guys,
Well I am now testing the loader with varous material. I have footage from the very early days of the RED camera. Ver 1.5 to be precise and some 30.1 and in the first sample I can use colour science 1 and I can convert to linear and convert back to Rec 709 and compare to rec 709 converted by the loader and it matches. However I am not getting such luck with the newer footage and doing the same steps. I can get it to match if I play with the exposure a bit, but in my view, this should not have to be done, adjust the exposure that is...
Has anyone tested this? this is not a complex process, and I am surprised that there is no 1:1 in conversion comparison. I should also say that
the colour science option are not available with the new software as it is not required.

Thoughts?

Fusion 6.32 Is Ready For Download

Fusion 6.32 is ready for download

Updated RED R3D support. It includes new “RED color 3″ and “RED gamma 3″.
Also fixed the track number control showing for single track/non-HDR clips

“Select All Previous” and “Select All Next” have been placed into a sub-menu, and are available even when the RMB click is not on a spline point.
It will affect one spline if one is RMB clicked on, or all editable splines otherwise Selecting all previous and next points can now also be done in the timeline.

Added Select All Previous/Next options to LUT spline editors..

Each group of path maps in preferences (fixed built-ins, default and user) are now sorted, which should make it a little easier to find the right one.

Python Rename Nodes

Hi there,
i'm new to this forum.

I just started to write some usefull scripts for fusion in python but I got stopped by a very simple task: renaming a node like one would do with the F2 key. Thought it may work like this -- but doesn't.

mybg = comp.Background()
mybg.SetAttrs({'TOOLB_PassThrough': True}) ## works fine
mybg.SetAttrs({'TOOLS_NAME': "NewName", 'TOOLB_NameSet':True}) ## does not work

Anyone an idea on that?

Thanks in advance

Motion Vectors Correction Macro

This tool lets you modify motion vector map in case the position of your 3D-object is animated in 2D with tracking or other kind of 2D-animation to achieve correct resulting power and direction of the motion blur.

It should be applied directly to the motion vector map before its connection to a vector motion blurring tool (VectorMotionBlur or ReelSmart Motion Blur).

Connect the Center parameter to the 2D-animation you apply to the 3D-object. Set the Magnitude to adjust the amount of the correction.

Motion blur in the 2D transform tools which animate the position of your 3D object must be switched off to avoid a double motion blurring (vector-based + Fusion's 2D motion blur).

Tiles Tiles Tiles

Hey folks sorry for the consistent flow of newbie questions but I get stumped every so often. Let's say I have ten or fifteen image sequences that are each about 200 frames long. They are 1920x1080 and all of them shot no dally. Now I want to tile them in a grid that makes up a frame of about 7k in size. I then want to pan them as a unit so my 1920x1080 comp looks like it was shot nodally . I don't know why I am having so much trouble with this but I can't seem to figure out how to easily tile them. I know how I would do it in combustion but here it seems like I will need a whole bunch of merge nodes and transforms. Further more the merge nodes only seem to allow me to work at hd resolution. What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance

Water Tools (?)

I was reading the October 2011 issue of CINEFEX today and while reading eyeon's ad I noticed the sentence:

"Image features the WPP and Volumetric Fog & Water Tools of eyeon's new Deep Compositing Toolset."

Then while reading the 'Anonymous' article I read:

"...using a new 3D water system developed by Eyeon and designed to be implemented inside its Digital Fusion compositing software".

Now, 6 months later and after the release of Fusion 6.31 we have still not seen any of that Water Tools mentioned. It is highly possible that it all refers to the fact that someone could create water looking surfaces using displacement maps with particles but from reading all the above references it is almost clear that there was a specific Water Tool that was never released.

Do you think that it is something we will see at NAB next month or was it something that was made for Anonymous and maybe Uncharted Territory doesn't want it to be released?

Volume Fog Trouble

Hi,

I have been experimenting today trying to get the volume fog working in fusion - I am having trouble getting it to behave as in the tutorial which iv followed through a number of times.

I am using a world position pass from vray derived from the VraySamplerInfo element with point and world coordinate system.

It is rendering to a unclamped 32bit exr sequence. Im not sure it is correct though as it looks different to the world posistion pass shown on vfxpedia (http://vfxpedia.com/images/F62_WPP_Concept03_Compare.png)

my wpp appears more like the 'eye space' than the 'world space' despite using having the world coordinate position picked?

Its like there is an 'axis' missing in my fog - I cant get it to seethe either. Im using the same set up as the tutorial 256x256 fast noise and 256 z slices. I have experimented with the scale and most parameters but I seem to be making a fundamental mistake somewhere. Is there a example file anywhere I could use?

I have attached my comp and images - I would love if someone could give me some pointers - im at a real loss here!

Interesting Issue With Dpx 16Bit Int Output

Hey,

I sent a clip to my client and they loaded into NUKE. As you know Nuke in default mode will decide that DPX is log and so remove it and then display with the standard sRGB Vlut. Well when my client loaded the clip, which had my clips cut into the master clip, Nuke would decide when my clips in the master clip are viewed they shift. So the original material is interpreted as log and my clip is interpreted as sRGB, which makes no sense as the ouput was 16bit DPX from Fusion. there is no reason for it to think it is sRGB..

Has anyone seen this?

File Conversion In Loader?

Hey,
I was just thinking about the loader and how Nuke and how Toxik deal with this. Now there is nothing wrong with putting a tool after the loader, but, out of general interest would it not be more practicle to have the loader give the option of removing gamma, or have the option to put a custom conversion tool in there... you could do a macro that is setup with a tool that will convert and package it up, this would be nice, but as I said just wondering if this concept would be better done in the loader? What do you think?

Thanks Tilt For The Josh Pines Macro

Hey Tilt,
Thanks for making the Josh Pines delog log macro. I love this approach from Josh, it is so much better in my view. I just wanted to say thanks
as I was about to do the same thing in fusion, as I wrote a conversion tool for toxik, and was about to learn how to do it Fusion. I take it you used the Custom tool and made a macro from it? If so, is the custom tool straight forward to figure out? I used Toxik's pxl tool to write a custom pixel in pixel out with the forumula in the middle (basic description) process. At first glance this tool seems to do the same thing...

I think I should go through all the available macros, fuses and tool and see what is what... seems like some of the common issues most of us come across have been dealt with one way or another.

Another Tracker Question.

So in the past I could have sworn that there was a frame advance button for the tracker? Is my memory failing me? now that was around 8 years ago ;-) Anyway, I have looked and looked, buit no reference to frame advance tracking...

Or perhaps there is another way I am not seeing. In TOXIK you could sample various frames.. So for example, if I had a track and an object occludes the track sample I could just move my track make another sample and then make another sample. Now I know in the tracker there is this kind of feature, but I am talking about prior to the actual track. So I have made all my samples and then I hit track It then goes along then the track moves to the sample position and uses the new sample. In future this type of feature seems to be more of a fix, so you do your track, it looses the track and then you fix it with the track centre append option. This helps, but not what I am looking for. I want to track frame by frame to do more user assisted tracking if you follow me.

Anyway, is there some other options I am not seeing? I have read the manual it does not leap out at me. As I said in the beginning, I could have sworn this was an option in older versions of the tracker.

That is, if I take the transformation tool and set the centre, Size, and angle all linked to the unstablized or unsteady values of the tracker. One would expect this to remove the effect and the result would be the same movement without any transformation all to the image and do pixel averaging of the image, basically the concatenation will nul all movement. I have not had success. It seems to be a simple proceedure, but I only get results with position only. If I have rotation added for example it will not give the expected results. Is there something I am overlooking?

Hd Comp Need To Add A 4K Clean Plate

Hey everyone,

I've been using fusion for the past couple of months now, (I've owned it for years but alway ended up using Combustion or Toxik for most job) and I'm loving it.

I do have one question. How can I get a 4k plate into a 1920x1080 comp? Do I have to work in a 4k comp and then use a node to crop it or something?
Just forget that Modo is a 3D application, keep an open mind and have a look at how easily you can tweak stuff.

Hello!

Is there a way to spread the OGL depth of field samples more evenly?
The example image show the spread at quality level 64.
Maybe the current method is being used because the samples always stay at the same place, regardless of the quality setting.
But for higher quality OGL depth of field a more even distribution would be nice to have.
In maxscript one can easily get the coordinates using for example "in coordsys world obj.pos.x". How should I do this in Fusion?
So as I posted the other day, I am just coming back to Fusion, and I was wonding if things have changed in regards to the render node? Basically how is it setup now?

How Can I Convert The Technicolor Cinestyle Lut For Fusion

Hi I'm currently grading some footage shot on a Canon dslr using the Technicolor Cinestyle Picture Style which comes with an LUT for converting it to linear colour space(in txt and mga format). Is there anyway to convert the included lut files to a format fusion will accept?
I know that I can approximate a curve, but I'd like to be exact, as I'm going to match with some 3d overlay and I figure having both in linear colour space will be a good start. I've attached the Lut's.
Any help would be appreciated.
John

NB Thanks to Tilt...it's done. To use download the attached FusionCinestyleLUT. Add the Colour Curve tool after the loader, and then load the lut into the curves by right clicking on the curve window and selecting import LUT. There are two LUTs in the zip. Fusion Cinestyle is a direct translation of values every 4 steps or so between 1 and 256(I got lazy but I'll probably fill it in over the next week). Cinestyle Simple is an averaged curve.

Just wanted to say a quick hello to everyone.
I first got involved with fusion in 1995, it was digital fusion then, the system with the pipes.... those where the good old days. We where the first studio to use fusion in Vancouver,BC then, but for a various reasons I moved away from it.

I am now getting back into using Fusion again, I have been a discreet person for many years and I am still having a hard time excepting NUKE for a variety of reasons. They are both solid application, not here to compare, just to say I look forward to seeing what I can do with Fusion again.

I should also appologies now, as I will be asking many question, that will be using other apps to compare or explain, and this may be a pain for some, or maybe not, not sure. Just putting it out there.

Again thanks for keeping this forum going, I think it is as old as I am ;-)

cheers, and I look forward to more conversations.

Illumination Decomposition For Material Recoloring With Consistent Interreflections

Quote

Changing the color of an object is a basic image editing operation, but a high quality result must also preserve natural shading. A common approach is to first compute reflectance and illumination intrinsic images. Reflectances can then be edited independently, and recomposed with the illumination. However, manipulating only the reflectance color does not account for diffuse interreflections, and can result in inconsistent shading in the edited image. We propose an approach for further decomposing illumination into direct lighting, and indirect diffuse illumination from each material. This decomposition allows us to change indirect illumination from an individual material independently, so it matches the modified reflectance color. To address the underconstrained problem of decomposing illumination into multiple components, we take advantage of its smooth nature, as well as user-provided constraints. We demonstrate our approach on a number of examples, where we consistently edit material colors and the associated interreflections.

Image Warps For Artistic Perspective Manipulation

Quote

Painters and illustrators commonly sketch vanishing points and lines to guide the construction of perspective images. We present a tool that gives users the ability to manipulate perspective in photographs using image space controls similar to those used by artists. Our approach computes a 2D warp guided by constraints based on projective geometry. A user annotates an image by marking a number of image space constraints including planar regions of the scene, straight lines, and associated vanishing points. The user can then use the lines, vanishing points, and other point constraints as handles to control the warp. Our system optimizes the warp such that straight lines remain straight, planar regions transform according to a homography, and the entire mapping is as shape-preserving as possible. While the result of this warp is not necessarily an accurate perspective projection of the scene, it is often visually plausible. We demonstrate how this approach can be used to produce a variety of effects, such as changing the perspective composition of a scene, exploring artistic perspectives not realizable with a camera, and matching perspectives of objects from different images so that they appear consistent for compositing.

No Greenscreen But Black Background

Hello,

production wants to save money and therefore avoid a greenscreen. Is there anything I can do to get a reasonable matte with a black background? Light will be from the top without hard shadows. The talents will sit/stand on boxes which are in the picture as well (unfortunatly including the talents' shadows).

Half of the shots will be composed with a night sky in the background, so i am not worried about those. But there are also other backgrounds (diffuse, semi-dark ballroom) and I am not sure whether a pure lumakey is there an option at all (unless I want to spend a lot of time painting the matte myself).

Is there something one can do, to make this possible or would this be a good time to stop this insanity?

I've been sorting through my books and have decided to finally let go of my Fusion 5 manual.
Its in excellent condition and although we have vfxpedia it seams a complete waste to simple throw it away.
So I'm happy to give it to whoever wants it, you would just need to cover the postage from the UK.
I thought that this is where the object ID would come in handy, to use a bitmap mask with the cubes object ID selected coming out of the render3dnode.
However the bitmap mask wont connect to the Reder3d node.
I have been looking for a tutorial on Object ID but so far no luck. Any pointers would be great!

Hotkeys For Adding Tools

There are already a few threads about hotkeys for adding tools to the flow (for example this one or that one) but I thought I'd start a new one. Pingking has made a few scripts that add a tool and connect it to an already selected one. It occurred to me that these scripts are no longer necessary in current versions of Fusion, since the AddTool() function has been improved a lot.

So, all that is necessary nowadays are commands like these in your Fusion.hotkeys file:

Flow = {
 M = "t = self:Composition():AddTool('Merge', true, -32768, -32768)",
 T = "t = self:Composition():AddTool('Transform', true, -32768, -32768)",
 B = "self:Composition():AddTool('Blur', true, -32768, -32768)",
 SHIFT_M = "t = self:Composition():AddTool('Merge', true, -32768, -32768)",
 SHIFT_T = "t = self:Composition():AddTool('Transform', true, -32768, -32768)",
 SHIFT_B = "self:Composition():AddTool('Blur', true, -32768, -32768)",},
}

using the "true" parameter will make sure that custom tool default settings will be applied, -32768 activates auto-placement and connection to the current tool. I have added the "t = " because without it, Fusion would crash when you close it after you have used the hotkeys. This, however, still hasn't made this solution completely stable.

I'm still getting unpredictable crashes now and then as a result, and it would be great to know if that happens to anybody else. The procedure would be to add the snippet above to your .hotkeys file, create a new comp, use one of the hotkeys to create a tool and then quit Fusion. Sometimes this will result in a crash, but sometimes it works. And sometimes it works for normal hotkeys but the SHIFT ones will cause a crash. It would be cool if you guys could send crash reports to eyeon so they have some more data at hand than just my bug report :-)

cheers

Fog3D Flickering

Trouble with flickering in fog3d:
The scene is roughly 10000x10000 units with plenty of image cards with alphas. When i animate anything in the view, the entire view the fog3d causes flickering, the flickering is present in the entire rendered view, both where the imagecard is covering and areas that is not covered by the animated image card.

Here is what i've tried so far:
* switch from ogl to software render.
* switch bit depth of the textures and/or the render in quite a few different bit depth combinations
* made a bounding box around the entire scene (so that it is not an scene scale change that causes the problem)
* switching on and off render channels in the output (will need the world pass for volumetric fog later)
* changed transparency sorting from all three settings (quick sorted, z buffer and sorted)
* changed shading model from smooth to flat
* switch lightning on and of
None of the above helped

Only thing that kills the flickering is removing fog3d or having no moving geometry :-(
EDIT: another thing that helps: removing the alpha on the moving geometry (even if the flickering is caused by areas of the rendered image that is NOT covered by that geometry wtf?!?)

I will be grateful for any suggestions...

Letterbox Overlay Viewshader

The recent thread about Alexa logC conversion sparked my interest in Fusion's viewshader fuses. Turns out, it's not that hard to write basic CG shaders that way although managing multiple chained viewshaders isn't that comfortable in my opinion.

But anyways, here's a Fuse that draws a letterbox overlay as a viewshader, which means there's no longer any need to drag around a resize or letterbox node in your flow to check how the final result will be framed. The difference to Fusion's guides overlay is the fact that this fuse works with any image size. You can define any custom aspect or even the width of the top and bottom bar independently in pixels. I once had a project with a 1.85 frame format that was off-center inside a 3K film scan.

you can find it on vfxpedia. Enjoy :-)

Hi,
I wanted to see if there is a way to define variable paths in Fusion loaders.

So basically if I have a directory

Fusion/Seq_01/shot_001/master.comp and the images Fusion/Seq_01/shot_001/images/
.../shot_002/master.comp Fusion/Seq_01/shot_002/images/
.../shot_003/master.comp Fusion/Seq_01/shot_003/images/

and I work on shot 001 and set all my loader paths as $seq/$shot/images/ and save the comp and resave it as Seq_01/shot_002/master.comp it should automatically update the loaders from shot002/images

Kindly suggest if this is possible.

Sparse Color Gradient Fuse

I've been working on a fuse to draw procedural gradients using inverse distance weighting. You can find a preliminary version here.

Currently, it's quite slow since it doesn't have OpenCL support yet. But this will be my next step. Here's a demo video:

It has several uses/features:

a four-corner-gradient with freely movable corners

a linear ramp that gets extrapolated beyond its points

a barycentric 3-corner-gradient

combining multiple tools for more than 4 colors (data is passed via image metadata)

I wrote the fuse to try out if the sparse color feature found in ImageMagick would have helped me in a matte painting situation I had to solve last year. I had to remove something on a street with cars passing by which changed the brightness of the asphalt in unpredictable ways. I was looking for a procedural solution that would at least get me 90% of the way and I ended up cornerpinning a four-color-gradient with animated colors. I think this fuse would have helped me back then :-)

Plans for the future: DoD support, OpenCL acceleration and a variant of this tool that is better suited to produce distortion maps to create a poor man's Photoshop liquify tool.

Loss Of Decklink Support

A few years ago, I got rid of my old Aja SD card to upgrade to a HD card.

Having felt somewhat dissappointed with the Aja card's performance, I opted for the decklink HDextreme3D card. At the time, it was one of only a few cards supporting Fusion. For a couple of years it was great.

All that changed mid way through last year.

Now, after a few minutes of working in Fusion, the decklink plugin makes it crash. The only way to stop the crashing is to remove the plugin.

I've been getting by just using the computer monitor for my Fusion work, but it's certainly not ideal. While I'm doing a lot of grading in Resolve, for most work, I find grading in Fusion quicker and easier, but it's rather painful without broadcast monitor support.

The decklink card is still great in Premiere, Avid, etc.

Has anyone out there had a similar problem?

I contacted Blackmagic about it, but got no joy. Their site still advertises Fusion support, but when I mentioned the problem, they told me to use a legacy driver as their current ones don't support Fusion, but their old drivers won't work in the current version of Win7.

I've thought about trying to squeeze in an Aja card as well as the BM card, but there's not really the room. Does anyone know if there are plans from Eyeon or BM to fix this problem?

Alexa Workflow In Fusion 6.1

Hi everyone, this is my first post i think after a loooong time lurking here.
I have some issues that have been and still are a pain in the arse with lut conversions, especially with alexa footage on fusion.
I'm using prores 4444 12bit straight out of the camera recorded in LogC.
I made my custom luts for post in the alexa lut generator and i'm using those as a file lut in and out.
This is all fine, but two main issues arise:
- I don't have 12bit color precision thanks to Fusion reading mov files at 8bit
- I can't get the color pipeline in fusion be like the one in nuke.

First problem would be solved by exporting exrs out of AE on the mac.
Second problem is trickier: i'm doing half of the show in fusion and the other half in nuke, and while the software choice is debatable (in both ways) i'd love to have the same color pipeline between two softwares to get consistent results.
And this time i'd like to conform with what nuke's doing with its lut "AlexaV3LogC"
It's a 1D curve whose exact math is as foollows:

Now, i can't export a working lut from nuke because the .3dl i generate there clips overbrights (and this particular curve introduces them in the footage), so i have to get a colorlookup (color curves tool) that generates that exact curve.
I tried with the custom tool, inserting those formulaes in the inter section (using r1, g1 and b1 instead of the x) and putting i1,i2,i3 in the channels section. Unfortunately my experience is on nuke (i started my career with fusion 4 but switched to nuke not much time afterwards) so i really need advice. What i would do in nuke is to get a colorlookup node and add an expression to the master curve.
Any help would be reeeeally appreciated.

Swap Inputs With A Twist

I used to swap the drop-downs of a gamut tool a lot. sRGB to linear and back. I thought, hey, what if the ctrl-w shortcut which swaps foreground and background inputs would just invert the tool's function in case there is no foreground image. So I wrote this script :-)

You can use it as a full replacement for ctrl-W if you assign a hotkey (e.g. shift-X in case you have to switch between Fusion and Nuke a lot) but it will also invert a lot of other tools, for example Transform, Gamut, ColorSpace, ErodeDilate, masks and keyers. It can easily be extended, so you could even make it invert the gain values of a color corrector if you like (although it can't be inverted fully of course).

Names From Operations Script

This script renames all the (selected) nodes in a composition according to their main parameters, so you can quickly get the idea what operations are performed by Merges, and ChannelBooleans, what channels are used in Bitmap masks and how they are applied, what is the radius of a Blur tool and resolution of a Background etc. just looking at the node names in the flow.

This is a major update of a script originally developed by Christoffer Hulusjo and improved by Chad Capeland (original forum thread).

Thanks to scripting skills of Sergey Ilyinov, the new version supports much more tool types.

Names_from_Operations_v15.eyeonscript

Here is the list of supported tools and what their new names are composed from:

Creators

Background - resolution and fill type (Solid/Vertical/Horizontal/4Corner/Gradient), e.g. BGR_2048x1556_Gradient

FastNoise - resolution, type and inversion, e.g. FNoise_2048x1556_DisInv

Masks

BitmapMask - source channel, inversion, paint mode, e.g. BMP_LuminanceInv_Multiply, BMP_Alpha_Merge

Polygon - inversion and paint mode, e.g. PLY_Inv_Minimum, PLY_Maximum

Color

ChannelBoolean - operation, just like in the original version, e.g. BOL_Copy

ColorSpace - color space to convert from/to, e.g. CSp_HLS (the direction of the conversion will be added in the next version, e.g. CSp_FromHLS)

Gamut - source and output space, e.g. GMT_Rec709_Lin, GMT_Lin_sRGB

Transform

Crop - resolution, e.g. CRP_1330x944_

Resize - resolution, e.g. RSZ_720x576_ (filter method will be supported in new version)

Other Types

Blur - X and Y blur size, e.g. BLR_xy7_, BLR_x7y22_

ChangeDepth - target color depth, e.g. ChD_16int

Filter - filter type, e.g. FLT_Sobel

Glow - to do, similar to Blur.

MatteControl - channel to combine and operation, like in version from Chad, e.g. MAT_Red_Copy

Merge - apply mode, just like in the original version, e.g. MRG_Multiply (operators of the Normal more will be supported later, e.g. MRG_Normal_Atop)

Saver - output format, e.g. SVR_mov (QT codecs and bit depth for DPX and TIFF will be added later)

Shape3D - geometry type and input material, e.g. SH3D_Plane_DiffuseMat, SH3D_Sphere_Phong1

TimeSpeed - speed parameter, e.g. Speed_1x_ (delay value will be added later, e.g. Speed_1x_48Later)

WirelessLink = W_Loader1

This advanced version of the script is slower, so it's recommended to run it not automatically upon opening and saving compositions, but rather to add a button to the Toolbar and run it from time to time. The speed is also the reason why the amount of supported tool types is limited to the most important ones.

You can also configure the script switching off any tool types support by editing the list in the beginning of the script text. Just change 1 to 0 opposite to the tool types to make the script work faster or avoid renaming of certain types for any other reason.

Add Anything ("add Tool" Enhancement - Former Nuke Users May Love It)

i created these when i worked with fusion for the first time and i was annoyed by that huuuge "add tool" window. and the fact that at least back then, it only listed tools (that's where the script got its name from. guess i should have shared this with you guys earlier but i think there are some nice twists to my scripts that can still make it very useful, depending on your taste/needs).

benefit #1:
manual refresh is possible!
especially while creating new scripts/macros, i find it annoying that the add tool doesn't refresh its list automatically. while refreshing always automatically would be too slow for a script, you do have a refresh button in "add anything" and "add anything compact" has a hotkey for manual refresh (Ctrl + u - it's in the header of the script as well).

benefit #2 (regards "add anything compact" only):
this version comes with a sweet and tiny window! if you use "tab" as a hotkey for the script, you might just forget you're not in nuke any more (AND it still searches for the pattern you type anywhere in the tool/macro/script names, just like the regular "add tool" and unlike nuke, which only lists things starting with the pattern)

benefit #3:
the list can be sorted case-independently. no more tools/macros/scripts that start with lower case showing up at the very bottom.

benefit #4:
you are able to choose what to display in the list (tools, macros, scripts). this selection gets saved as well.
in "add anything", via the UI; in "add anything compact", there are three parameters right in the header of the script, you just have to edit if you want to exclude something from the list for some reason (by default, everything is listed).

=============================

Change history:
-------------------
Jan 27, 2012 (v2)
-) List can be sorted independently of case (used to be the same way "Add Tool" does it as of now - listing items starting with lower case characters at the bottom of the list)
-) Caches and settings are seperated for "Add Tool", "Add Anything" and "Add Anything Compact". They don't overwrite each others lists any more
-) Files are checked strictly by ending of filename (formerly, e.g. ".eyeonscript.bak" would be found and added to the list as well, now only e.g. ".eyeonscript")

Diytools - Simple But Handy Macros

(that's supposed to be "diyTools" - ah, auto correction... )

i have recently created a set of macros doing mostly basic operations i miss as separate nodes in fusion (e.g. clamping/normalizing)
these are the kind of macros an experienced artist will probably already have created himself.

but if you're new or simply more artistic than technical or just too busy to create them yourself, etc., they might come in handy for you. so i figured i should publish them

there is one exception though - the diyEdgeTool is a little more elaborate. i tried to mimic the most important functionalities i would use in tinderbox's matte tool. (the "edge enhance" option is something i've come up with myself but hasn't been tested much - sometimes it does amazing things but sometimes it doesn't work at all - that's why it's off by default )

Correct Lens Falloff Using An Out Of Focus White Card?

This review http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/lenses/24-70mm.htm shows that when wide open, this lens has some falloff.

A user on another forum said that he would shoot a white card out of focus with the lens wide open and divide the shot by the white card in post using Flame.

This would be pretty easy to do in Fusion, I'd expect?

Luckily, this probably won't affect me as I'll be shooting 4K on a 5K sensor - and that review is using the full frame 5K mark II - but it would be nice to add this technique to the arsenal.

Thanks!

Copy And Paste Keyframes

Hi. (To expand on previous thread) I have a sequence were a guy is running towards camera. I have roto'd a section where his foot is flat on the ground and then does a running cycle until the same foot is back flat on the ground ie 3 poly's thigh, shin and foot. I now want to copy all the keyframes from that sequence (which I assume will copy all the poly's) so I can paste for the next leg up and down and use as a starting point, then just jiggle about to match scaling etc. When I copy these keyframes and try to paste, a pop up comes up saying "Clipboard empty" Can someone please tell me how to do this, if possible Many thanks.

Best Practices Workflow For Using Red R3D Files?

I've got a Scarlet ordered, so am starting to think about a workflow to use R3D files.

As Apple killed FCP's future, I'll be editing on Win7 Adobe 5.5 AE & Premiere.

I downloaded some R3D files from RED : http://www.red.com/learn/workflows/rcx-x-pro-motion-to-stills-workflow

and Fusion 6.3 opens them perfectly.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on how R3D files are used in your workflow?

BTW - I was surprised that they looked 'perfect' when I opened them. I thought R3D files were linear?

And I didn't notice any GPU being used on my GTX-285 when I played the 5k resolution 200 frame sequence?

Also, the 200 frame R3D sequence containing a single NeatVideo filter it took up 85% of my 48 GB machine's RAM. 5K is very RAM hungry!!!

5 Easy Piec... Er... Questions!

I have five simple-I'm-sure Fusion 6 questions for which I would love your help!

Question #1: What's the mystery "hold down" key for constraining to horizontal or vertical when making a new keyframe on a path? In my earlier version of DF it used to be "Ctrl" or "Alt" (don't recall without checking), but I haven't landed on it yet.

Question #2: When editing a tool's spline, is there a way for ONLY that tool to show up in the spline window and not a bird's nest of all the other splines I don't care about (and don't want to touch)? And/or, is there a quick way to un-check all the display boxes for everything I don't want and keep just the one I do want? And/or, am I thinking of editing a spline in a way that's not thinking clearly?

Question #3: After rendering a preview, is there a keyboard shortcut for getting rid of the preview and going back to the workspace? So far, all I've figured is RT-clicking the tool and deselecting "Create/Play Preview on" checkmark.

Question #4: If I view something larger than 100%, how do I scroll that new view sideways or up and down? It seems locked in its initial position (?)

Question #5: When adding and adjusting a mask, is there a way to NOT have those masks added as tools to the workflow area, but rather just listed with the tool's controls like earlier versions of DF? It feels like adding them to the workflow isn't necessary (or I'm missing the point) and more like just chewing gum on the bottom of my shoe to untangle and put somewhere after they get added.

THANKS for your help on these!

3D-Fluids Inside Fusion?

Hi!

I was wondering if there is a 2D-fluid simulation-Plugin for Fusion (or OFX?).
Ideally it would also output motion vectors so that Fusion's Particles could be emitted/affected by them.
And there would be an input for motion vectors to affect the simulation. These could come directly from a render oder from an optical flow node.

Hi,

When I try to save/renden a comp to h.264/.mov I get weird glitches. Just once or twice in an 2 minute clip.
The strange this is that it only happens somethimes. I reinstalled all of my codecs and Fusion but it still happens.
Any ideas?

And one other question. The bigges one actually.
What codec do you use? What editing software do you use?

I use Premiere Pro. But I cant find "the awesome" workflow that I want.
Can you edit your material in Generation AM? Or is that just a "project manager"?

I appreciate any tips for a good workflow.

(Sorry for my bad english)

Better Corner Pin - Gui Prototype

In my opinion, Fusion's corner pin is... well... less than adequate for some operations. Especially if the corner's you want to pin aren't the image corners. There's Krokodove's Positioner, which fixes some parts but has new drawbacks. And neither tool concatenates with other transforms. I think it's time for a better corner pin in Fusion - especially now that eyeon teamed up with Imagineer :-)

I've made a GUI prototype fuse to propose some ideas, some clearly inspired by Nuke's corner pin. The Fuse doesn't transform an image (currently I'm lacking the OpenCL skills to implement a speedy image transformation) but draws some rectangles instead so you can play around with it. Some things I'd like to see in a corner pin can't be done by Fuses. But it's just a semi-finished idea for a tool anyways.

The tool allows you to define source corners so you don't need to use the icky perspective positioner

Allows you to easily define a reference frame for a four-corner-track by copying from destination to source coordinates and vice versa

Fine-tuning offset sliders allow you to tweak the track or adjust it for the second eye in a stereo project. This is something Fusion's current corner positioner has already and I wouldn't want to miss it.

What are your thoughts? Is anyone still corner-pinning in this age of full CG and 3D matchmoving?

There are two versions of this fuse now. Both have 5x subsampling in CPU and OpenCL.
v1.0 is for Fusion 6.31 and up. It fully supports DoD and RoI.
v0.95 has partial DoD support for earlier versions of Fusion (you need at least Fusion 6.2 build 897). The input DoD is kept/transformed, but the Fuse will always request the full upstream image and clip what's outside its borders.

Crippled Opengl And Cuda For Newer Geforce Nvidia Cards Than 200 Series!

I just found out something that is very troubling.

Apparently, nVidia is CRIPPLING the OpenGL of cards > GeForce200.

So that a OpenGL calls on a GTX480 will be ~4 times slower than on a GTX285!!!!

From the reading I'm doing, it appears that nVidia is also cripping CUDA on these cards.

The Quadro has fast OpenGL but crippled CUDA - and the Tesla has full CUDA performance.

I'm including a few links, but a search for '580 opengl crippled' pulls up a lot of them

http://blenderartist...l=1#post1987116

http://blenderartist...l=1#post1848257

As my GTX-580 3GB to replace what I thought would be a slower GTX-285 arrives tomorrow, I find this VERY disturbing!!!

** EDIT *** this benchmark seems to indicate CUDA is getting faster in newer GTX cards!

http://kernelnine.com/?p=218

BTW - if OpenGL calls like “glReadPixels()” on a GTX480 are ~4 times slower than on a GTX285, how does this actually affect 3D users day to day?

If we’re using opengl to to display an estimation of the render for tweaking, I would guess 3d apps would be using the glWritePixels - much like a video game would to display the game.

Is this only going to affect users to want to read what opengl has ‘rendered’ - or is this going to affect normal usage of 3D apps?

When would you need to read those buffers, rather than display them (saving the opengl render)?

Blurred Edges Restoration Macro

Here it is, a Christmas present from Parasol Island!

There is always an issue with keying defocused and motion blurred objects: the color on the edges is mixed with the color of the background.
Basically, the problem arises even with static objects which are in focus, because there is always some softness in the practical image.

The most obvious solution to this is either to suppress (desaturate) the background color or to shrink the objects' edges.
In first case, you may have a problem if the background luminance is different, for instance, if you key dark objects against white (like trees against the sky)
In second case, the blurring may be so strong, that the objects disappear completely with shrinking.

This macro expands the actual color of the objects so that it extends through the entire blurred areas, replacing the background color mixture.

The workflow is the following:

Connect the macro after the keyer

Set the Output Image parameter to Pre-Shrunk Image

Adjust the Pre-Shrink parameters so that the shrinking was as little as possible to just cut BG color spill completely

Switch the Output Image to Extended Color to check with what colors you are going to fill the edges, adjust the shrinking if nessesary

Switch the Output Image to Final Result

Set the Extend parameters so that you see no sharp borders in the blurred areas. Keep the parameters values as small as possible

Adjust the Soften Border group so that you don't see a border between the internal untouched areas and the recolored blurred areas

BlurredEdgesRestoration_v04-1.setting

You can set the parameters in standard Fusion units (relative to the image width) as well as in actual pixels, which may be useful with little amounts of blurring in the source image.

The X and Y multiplier values are used for objects which are motion blurred primarily in horizontal or vertical direction.

The macro also solves the problem of edging which happens due to the data compression or chromatic aberrations.

Which is going to end up faster? I'm concerned about going down to 1.5 GB VRAM as I've got 2GB VRAM now with a GTX-285.

3D Text And Elements Iso For Further Fx In A Flow

Hi All...

been enjoying lurking here on the forum the last few months as I dig into Fusion.

Yesterday I was building the following Flow:

It consists of PSD with alpha on an image plane merged with some 3d shapes and 3d text flowing out to a 3d render result.

If you look at the resulting output output, you can see I have the 3d text on a circle path and it's wrapping around the other 3d shapes.

I thought I'd like to add a shine or glow to the text based on a filter.

the thing is, I don't understand how to isolate the text (I assume post renderer) so I can add filters to it.

I assume it would based on some sort of object Id workflow...but my haphazard clicking hasn't led me down the right path yet.

Maybe it's that I add a renderer in line of the text and use a Z channel pass to to recomp it after the fact?

Sorry for the newbie question....but I'd appreciate the jumpstart...

much thanks!

Fusion Cutting My Export Quicktime Video?

Hi I'm hoping one of you gurus could help me out on this little problem. I created a sequence of shots with effects in Fusion 6.3, 64 bit version, that is 2,793 frames long. The comp settings are on 1280 x 720 HD at 30 fps. My saver is set to quicktime Animation codec at 30 fps and by default it has the keyframes setting of the codec set to 30 (which may or may not matter but thought I'd mention it since I am not sure). Now here is the weird part. I exported the sequence and it exported without problem but when I play the video in quicktime player it says it is 2,596 frames long! Almost 200 frames less than the comp! I thought maybe it just didn't finish exporting to the end somehow but after checking the exported video against the actual comp I do see that the entire video ends. But when comparing certain key parts in the video these key parts are not matching. For example, in the comp on frame 2419 I have an object that pops in to the shot. When I check frame 2419 on the exported video I am nowhere near that spot on that frame! On the quicktime that object ends up popping in at frame 2248 which is a lot earlier than it should have been. The video plays fine on quicktime it's just somehow shorter? It looks like my video somehow got truncated on the export. My initial guess is that the frame rate is off ( which by the way the 'video framerate' being shown on the quicktime player's movie inspector says Movie Fps: 27.87, waaa?). So I'm not sure if I missed a framerate setting or what ?

Like I said my comp's frame format settings are HD 1280x720 at 30 frames per second. My saver is set to Quicktime using Animation codec at 75% quality. Fps also set to 30 and keyframes set to 30 which was the default and I'm not sure if that might be affecting something. Is there anywhere else I need to check to make sure my fps are correct?

Also, another very strange thing I noticed. If I bring in the exported quicktime video into fusion in a brand new 30fps comp there is one spot where there is a few seconds of black on the video but when I play the video in fusion that portion of the black is completely clipped! I triple checked the source and its definitely the video that I have been checking, it's not another version. Yet that portion of the video gets clipped in fusion and it is not clipped when I play the same video in quicktime. What the heck is going on here lol. I'm so frustrated:/ Anyone have any clue as to what is going on here? I am out of ideas on this. It just doesn't make any sense to me. If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it.

Two (Oldie) Newbie Questions

Question One:
My fifty-something eyes are just plain having a hard time seeing the text on the tools in DF6. I've tried different skin schemes and such, and I know about "scale" for viewing the tools, but even that doesn't scale the size of the TEXT. My app monitor is 1680 x 1050 and it seems I've got plenty of space to work in, so is there a way to just enlarge the text on tools more, or do only young fighter pilots with eagle vision use DF anymore?

Question Two:
In what I'm used to with an earlier version of DF, I got in the very-convenient habit of hitting (I think it was) "F8, F5" to go to "spline view" then "enlarge view" to edit and adjust a spline. It seems that F5 now just toggles back, and F6 and F7 are for scripting and that blocky view thing I never understood that I think had something to do with catering to After Effects folks. Is there still a keyboard shortcut for enlarging the spline view vertically?

While I'm at it, where would I find some kind(s) of tutorials/user guides for DF6 if I were to pretend I were a brand new user? It seems there are enough things different from earlier DF versions that I'd like to find out about them.

THANKS

Get Pixels Count And Their 2D Coords

Hi there..
I with a geek quastion for this time ..

Is there a way to get a count of pixels (in some image) with some value? and their appropriately coords in current image coord system?

for example.. we have a picture 4x4pix resolution.

and some of pixels is not dark (to be precisely - in most monitors they would be green).

I need to get something like this :
total green count : 3
they are in: [0,1], [2,1], [1,0]

would be superawesome do get this

thanx.

3Ds Max To Fusion (C4D To Ae)

Hi,

I'm wondering if there is a plugin/script for 3ds max to export imagesplanes/geometry to Fusion?
Just like C4D has to AE.

I'm trying to achieve something just like that. Just a laptop opening up.
I want to be able to change the content on the screen in Fusion.

So what is the best way to go?

I've tried to export the plane (screen) as an FBX, but the animation doesn't work in Fusion.
I've tried to bake the animation as well (one key per frame). But nothing works.

The camera works great if a export it as an DEA-file. But no geometry.

I'm kind of new to Fusion, so I'm kinda lost here.

(Sorry for my bad english. I hope you understand what I mean.)

Best regards

I intend to use an HDR image as a spherical texture. Both the OpenGL renderer as well as the software renderer are doing unexpected things:

- The OpenGL renderer looks alright, but it doesn't produce values greater than 0.98something. Even the alpha channel isn't solid, and all the superbrights are clipped.

- The software renderer is just plain weird. It looks like it's mapping the texture in a different way or something.

What is going on? Both renderers are set to float32...

Smaa: Enhanced Subpixel Morphological Anti-Aliasing

So when using the OpenGL renderer, we have SSAA. But looking around to learn about what other Anti-aliasing approaches there are, I came across SMAA. Supposedly, SMAA is a very efficient GPU-based MLAA implementation (a post process if you will,) capable of handling subpixel features seamlessly, and featuring an advanced pattern detection & handling mechanism.

"We present a new image-based, post-processing anti-aliasing technique, that offers practical solutions to all the common problems of existing filter-based anti-aliasing algorithms. It yields better pattern detection to handle sharp geometric features and diagonal shapes. Our edge detection scheme exploits local contrast features, along with accelerated and more precise distance searches, which allows to better recognize the patterns to anti-alias. Our method is capable of reconstructing subpixel features, comparable to 4x multi-sampling, and is fully customizable, so that every feature can be turned on or off, adjusting to particular needs. We propose four different presets, from the basic level to adding spatial multi-sampling and temporal super-sampling. Even this full-fledged version achieves performances that are on-par with the fastest approaches available, while yielding superior quality."

Resize Tool Preview Excellent But Render Is Soft

Hi,

When scaling down (640x480 to 320x240) the Resize tool gives me excellent results in the preview window (the Resize tool option "Only use filter in HiQ" is not checked) but when I do a final render the quality is visibly more soft & fuzzy.

When I check the HiQ button (to the right of the Render button) then the preview also looks as soft as the final renders.

When stepping through all the Resize filters, HiQ always makes the result softer.

Does anyone know what's going on here?

How can I get clean & sharp resizing?
I'm running Fusion 6.14 (build 761) 64-bit.

Good morning -
I am experiencing the following problem (Fu6.3): when I switch to the direct X view on a tool, my monitor just shows an out of range error. This is very likely the monitor's problem, so no need trying to change anything on hardwarelevel. Unfortunatly I often hit this Button accidentely and then have to turn off the monitor in the middle of work. Is there some way of just disabling this option at all and just have two displays, like in Fusion 6.1?

Newbie Needs Help With A Scene

Hey guys, my name is Vito

I am new to fusion and I want to learn it so bad since I think it's such an awesome application.
Basically I want to use it for my shortfilm, but now I am just trying to set up some testfiles.

In this scene here, I want to create a moody atmosphere with rain. All is done in Fusion..only the turtle mesh was imported.
What I got so far is a displaced groundplane with lighting. The turtle is just placeholder. I want to add skulls later on.
Now the big challenge is, rain. I want rain hitting the surface of the skulls and the ground. With that comes the splash effect and the water draining down into the gaps of the ground.

I think the splash effect could be a mix of particles spawning and a 2D texture which would be animated rings expending.
I know I could do that in my 3D application, but I want to do it in Fusion.

I can't script...but I would love to hear your opinion and would be happy about every single advice..

Thanks in advance!

But as soon as I increase the resolution of the render to ie, double the size, the fog is then getting clipped outside of the foreground object, meaning I can then only see the fog within the foreground object. Seems to be only when I increase the resolution since decreasing works properly. I seem to be having a brain fart on this one. Any ideas?

Rendering Synthetic Objects Into Legacy Photographs

Proposing a method to realistically insert synthetic objects into existing photographs without requiring access to the scene or any additional scene measurements. With a single image and a small amount of annotation, this method creates a physical model of the scene that is suitable for realistically rendering synthetic objects with diffuse, specular, and even glowing materials while accounting for lighting interactions between the objects and the scene. Demonstrating in a user study that synthetic images produced by this method are confusable with real scenes, even for people who believe they are good at telling the difference. Further, our study shows that our method is competitive with other insertion methods while requiring less scene information. The method also collected new illumination and reflectance datasets; renderings produced by the system compare well to ground truth. System has applications in the movie and gaming industry, as well as home decorating and user content creation, among others.
First i should see NGon circular particles (random size, flaying in space with little turbulence), then about 2-3 sec leter particles start move and fill mesh (sphere or something else).

Ok, I set pEmitter like that:
Region - mesh(volume)
PTurbulence
Style- NGon ...
Animate Number parameter in time a can fill mesh.
Animate velocity parameter have particles flaying in space, but after that how to reverse situation.
How can I reverse particles to fill mesh volume from time 4- 5?

Thanks

6.3 Luma Key Oddness

So what has happened to the Luma Keyer in Fusion 6.3? I have a logo with a white background and white within the logo. I luma key the white out and apply a mask to keep the white that I want from within the logo to remain. Merge my cut out logo over a background and find that the background is no longer transparent but black. Do this in F5,3 and it is transparent!!!!

Volume Re-Lightning Fusion 6.3

Hi guys,

Just wondering, since Fusion 6.3 they added a lightning tab in the volume fog tool. Very nice, BUT (;-)). I'm just wondering why I can't use it without fog.
I like the idea of having a 3D scene connected to a node that relights your scene with a pre-renderd position- and normal-pass. In that 3D scene you could have some guide geometry (very low poly) and the camera from a FBX file. I would like this approuch more then the "P_N_light" tool (which is doing quite a nice job by the way!) since it makes visually more sense to me to move lights in 3D space then picking a color/position in 2D. I know that "re-lightning" couldn't take advantage of shaders that easily, but still I thing it would be a nice add on to the volume tools (that's ofcourse only my opinion ;-)).
Overall, Fusion 6.3 seems to rock again!

cheers,
